2024 Indiana NATS Fall Student Auditions

The Indiana NATS chapter is pleased to announce the fall student auditions will be held in person, at Indiana Wesleyan University, Phillippe Performing Arts Center, 619 University Blvd, Marion, IN 46953, with hosts Dr. Tammie Huntington and Dr. Lisa Moore.  We want to thank Indiana Wesleyan for agreeing to host this year’s auditions.

Please note that National changed the labeling of NSA categories in 2022.  For information on repertory requirements, terminology and other resources visit the NATS National Student Auditions Resource Center.    Additional information will be sent regarding judging, as well as rubrics for Classical, Musical Theatre, CCM, and American Negro Spiritual categories.

For the 2024 Indiana Student Auditions, we will be offering Classical, Music Theatre, Commercial Music, American Negro Spirituals categories and adding Children and Youth categories.  All categories will be in person.  The document  “Categories being offered IN 2024” lists the categories that will be offered at Indiana’s Fall auditions.   NOTE: The repertory requirements have not changed for any of the categories, only the labeling.

For the Children and Youth categories, permission forms must be submitted prior to the auditions. Completed forms are to be returned to the instructor and then sent to David B Mannell. Each student under legal age, must be accompanied by a chaperone at all live NATS events.  A parent or legal guardian will have to complete and sign a form appointing a chaperone, who bears all legal, health, and safety liabilities for the minor-aged student. This form will be included in the online registration. According to national guidelines, NATS Teachers cannot serve as a student’s chaperone.

Students will provide adjudication sheets to judges on the day of the auditions
After the 2019 Indiana NATS student auditions, members voted to require students to provide their adjudication sheets for the judges on the day of the auditions. Instructors are to print those from Auditionware and provide them to their students prior to the auditions.

Judging
Members registering students are required to judge on the day of the auditions.  Additional fees will be charged for those requesting to be released.

Music for Staff Accompanists:
Each contestant is encouraged to provide their own collaborative pianist for the competition. If you require a staff accompanist, please send your students’ music in separate PDF files for each song/aria to dbmsal@aol.com immediately.  Please label each file- Student Name, Song Title, Category so they can be assigned and music sent to the pianist well in advance of the competition.

Registration Fees
Student Registration: $15.00 per event
Teacher Registration: $40.00
Teacher Release Request: $75.00 (in addition to Teacher Registration)

Staff Collaborative Pianist:
$30.00 (2 Songs) (Categories 1-2)
$40.00 (3 Songs) (Categories 3-6 & 11-14)
$50.00 (4-5 Songs) (Categories 7-10)

Confirming Repertory
You are asked to please check and double check the repertory you are entering for each student to make sure it meets the requirements for their category. The category labeling has been changed but repertory requirements for each category remain the same. If you have any questions or concerns regarding a piece meeting the repertory requirement please contact the host/President Tammie Huntington tammie.huntington@indwes.edu,  or David B. Mannell dbmsal@aol.com  immediately so your questions can be answered and an official decision made. Should a repertory change need to occur, you and your student will have time to make the change. Any student’s repertoire that does not meet the category requirement will sing for “Comments Only.”

Timeline

September 1-October 7: Registration Open

The AUDITIONWARE registration site will be open to allow TEACHERS to register themselves and their students for the auditions.  The registration site is the same system used in past years.

All teachers sending students are required to judge on the day of the auditions.

Teachers will print 3 copies of each student’s adjudication sheet which the student will present to the judges at the time of their auditions.  This is a new policy passed by the Indiana NATS members in 2019.

October 7:
Registration closes at 10:00 PM. No changes are permitted after registration is closed unless repertory does not meet requirements.

October 7-18:
Repertoire will be vetted and the singers will be divided into categories and schedule set.

October 20^th:
Student Performance Schedule available on Audtionware
(Reminder: Students will provide judges with their Adjudication Sheets on the day of the Auditions)

October 26^th: Student Auditions (In-Person)
Annual Chapter Meeting in PPAC #150 (Band Room)
Auditions: 9:00 AM-3:00 PM (Tentative)

FEES:

Teacher Registration: $40.00
Student Registration: $15.00 per event (EVENT IS ONE CLASSICAL CATEGORY or ONE MUSICAL THEATRE CATEGORY or ONE CCM CATEGORY, etc.)
Absentee Fee- $75.00 plus Teacher Registration Fee of $40.00 = Total $115.00

Online Registration closes on 10/7/2024. More information will be sent later regarding any issues with Repertory/ Payments/Judging Assignments
